KCW came and went and still the wee small boy doesn’t have a completed shirt. I’ve only the cuffs, collar and hem to do so it will be finished this week. I have 6 days till his birthday (although, and let’s not tell my brain this, I’ve actually got 10 days until his party which is when he’ll wear it!). So all is well.
However, I did finish the Almost Orla mitts in time for my friend Liz to fly to Australia with them and gift them to her daughter-in-law. As Liz had done the final stitching on these I’d not had the opportunity to photograph the mitts. I was really happy to receive these photos from Oz.
Liz also sewed the brown stems on afterwards in duplicate stitch. I’m eternally grateful.
These little mitts are far from perfect but given they were my first attempt at intarsia and the colourwork was very tiny and fiddly, I’m really pleased with how they turned out. They haven’t scared me off colourwork, which is a good thing.
More importantly, the recipient loves them. That’s the main thing!

Pendle Stitches 
The mitts are so beautiful. I’m a scaredy cat when it comes to any colourwork in knitting but every time I see some gorgeous intarsia it makes me want to have a go. Looking forward to seeing the finished birthday shirt and the pattern you opted for.
Thank you…I can only see the flaws (typical!). I actually prefer fair isle, but I do feel a real sense of accomplishment having made these. Go on…have a go! 😉
You’ve done really well to keep the tension even with the colour changes, well done!
Thank you…it’s not perfect but each leaf was only a few stitches across. There was a lot of yarn twisting and cursing, I can tell you.
Oh my goodness, these are adorable Evie! I’ve only knitted colourwork once and found it to be quite the mental workout as well as an exercise in dexterity. Glad to hear you were not scared off by it. As for the party and the unfinished shirt, ten days is plenty 🙂
These were not knitting in front of the tv! I had to really concentrate and got myself in a knot more than once.
The shirt is now only in need of a collar and buttons. Progress! 😀
