Whilst driving the kiddos to nursery today I had in my heada list of things I should do with the free time. It drives Mr S crazy that I do this, and it also drives my continuing battle with exhaustion and stress. I know this, but it’s a hard one to change.
However, I smiled as the kids ran down the path to nursery and kissed their happy faces before they ran to the window to wave me off. Please don’t think this marketing man’s ideal of domestic harmony is anything like the norm. Oh no. Normally they run amok, then through the door without so much as a second glance, leaving me to hang coats and bags and slope off ignored by them both.
Driving home the list continued to scroll through my head.
Maybe if I get all the “should dos” done I could finish the skirt.
Then “Thought for the day” came on the radio and changed my day.
The speaker quoted the Talmud…”A person will be called to account on Judgement Day for every permissible thing he might have enjoyed but did not”.
It seems to me that the small ironing pile can wait till later. The laundry can wash whilst I sew. The children and I will bake together when they get home from nursery and I can clean the windows whilst they eat dinner. And the weeds? Well they can surely wait another day
It’s a small victory, but I think I’m going to enjoy today.
So I wish you a very happy Friday doing the permissible things you enjoy.
