Lordy, I’m glad to see the back of 2012! It’s been a busy year and no mistake. We’ve had our fair share of stuff going on behind the scenes that have made this a singularly tiresome year!
However, I still managed to achieve some pretty cool things despite the year’s best attempts to throw me off kilter.
Button started school this year. Which seems fairly astonishing to me.
What’s even more astonishing is that this cardigan fits her now!
On the topic of school…I finally gained my degree this year.
BA Hons in Modern Languages anyone?
It is nothing short of miraculous that I finally completed this, and it couldn’t have been done without the patience and support of my wonderful husband, who also took over cooking duties at critical points, the unceasing babysitting services of Ma and Ma SIL, and the rather large boot up the behind from certain wonderful friends when I was seriously considering throwing in the towel last year.
On the creative side of things I had my most productive year to date.
The tally of things I made is as follows:
- 8 garments sewn for Button
- 3 garments knit for Button
- 4 tops sewn for me
- 2 cardigans sewn for me
- 2 sweaters knitted for me
- 1 pair of jeans sewn for me
- 2 pairs of trousers sewn for me
- 2 dresses sewn for me
- 5 craft items sewn
I know this isn’t as prolific as some of you guys out there, but I’m pretty chuffed with the outcome. Especially as only a couple of those items were epic fails.
Oh, what was I thinking???? This just never fitted right and the fabric was so floppy that it ended up shapeless. Not my finest hour but a great learning curve.
This one needed a bigger FBA and no mistake! And something doing with those ridiculous darts.
The major successes of the year have been my dresses and jeans.
These are worn constantly. And the Giverny dress always garners a complement. This is so reassuring that I’m finally making clothes that fit my lifestyle now…not my lifestyle 10 years ago.
And so to next year….
Normally at this point I’d add another page to the top of the blog and list all the things I’d like to do during the following year.
This year I’m not doing that. I’m taking a different tack. Because I truly have no idea what I want next year to look like, other than I’m hoping it’s going to be a lot slower and quieter than this year! All I know is that I want to focus on family and friends, home and health in 2013…and, of course, sewing, knitting, stitching and cooking!
I do hope you come along for the ride, I’ve so enjoyed your company this last year. And whatever you’ve got planned for 2013, I hope the New Year brings it to you in spades.

So many achievements there Evie! Especially your degree as going the OU route is hard (I’ve only completed one module years ago pre Boy!) I’m so glad I found you and your blog this year! Here’s to 2013…
The OU is a bear to do…and they are quite a singular organisation to work with
!
The feeling is mutual…I’ve so enjoyed out conversations last year and look forward to what this year has to bring us both.
Oh! Congrats on your BA!
Thank you.
How are things with you?
Good, thank you. Still settling in and waiting for stuff to arrive from London. It’s hard to live in a mostly empty house but we’re making the best of it. Only 2 weeks before our stuff arrives and then the real work begins. I hate unpacking.
Not long now….
I hate unpacking too! Drives me crazy.
Yay, congrats on the degree! That’s amazing! And Button looks so sweet in her school outfit.
Thank you. I’m pretty chuffed!
Don’t be fooled by that angelic face…
What a productive year! Shame about that second top as it looked a lovely design. Congratulations on the degree. Part time study is so hard when you have other commitments (been there done that!). So nice once it’s all over and you’ve succeeded though!
I am really thrilled to be at the end of my studies, but also very glad I actually stuck with it an finished it. A definite sense of achievement…as you will know.
I CAN’T believe how much you’ve accomplished in 1 year. Job well done! And who cares about goals. You can take a different tack and enjoy your spontaneous creativity to the fullest.
Thank you so much.
I’m really feeling that I’ve lost some of my creative spark and really just want to find that again but acting on whatever takes my fancy. I think it will be fun!
What a successful year you’ve had. Many congratulations on gaining your degree. You must feel more than a little chuffed! Can’t wait to hear all about your year ahead. I hope that all your dreams and ambitions for 2013 come true and I wish you and your lovely family the very best for not just the new year but for many many of them to come. xx
Thank you! I am decidedly chuffed.
And thank you for your lovely wishes…I’m wishing the same for you and yours. You must be so looking forward to a quieter year without the wedding to plan…
It’s hard to believe that another year has flown past. You should be able to take this year at a more leisurely pace and enjoy whatever you decide to do.
It’s astonishing how quickly it has passed. Fingers crossed this year is lived at a slightly slower pace.
Does Button truly fit her school jacket now? Really truly? Oh my god how time flies.
You have had an epic year and thank you for taking us along with you for some of it. Its been lovely to share it
). In terms of lists I am going to remove that page of ‘what I’m working on’ from my blog because its embarrassing how little it changes. LOL I’m awful at sewing lists. Awful.
Happy New Year to you and may 2013 be an interesting one too.
I’ve tried bribing her but she refuses to stop growing! Scarily…The Boy starts school in 9 months! How the heck did that happen?
Thank YOU all for sharing this year with me. I’ve got to say that the support of my friends, family and blog chums has meant so much to me this year. I’ve been truly blessed.
I think 2013 is going to be fun! I’m really looking forward to seeing what we all get up to…and nary a sewing list in sight!
What in 9 months! Truly! Blimey that’s incredible.
I’m still trying to get my head around it!
Maybe some sew more, but while getting a degree? High 5 to you!!!
Thank you! I’m still not entirely sure how it happened!
Whoa, Evie! you really made loads of garments this year…and all that while studying for your degree…what a great woman you are. As for the failure…I actually like the cardi plus top. Maybe with a different color trousers, but it doesn’t look shapeless to me. I am not much of a planner either…so let’s see what 2013 brings us! I wish you a great start.
You are just too kind. Thank you so much for your lovely comment and for all your support throughout 2012.
I’m looking forward to this new year, and to seeing what you get up to too! You always inspire me.
Congratulations on a wonderful year at home, sewing and blogging! Looking forward to sharing 2013 with you
Oh it just sounds so wonderful…I’m so looking forward to it. I can’t wait to see what you get up to this year. Last year was even busier for you…
